What is it about?
Company of One is a book about the benefits of owning a very small business. Drawing from a tech consulting background, Jarvis argues that keeping business small means you can be more innovative and customer focused. This is a book that argues small and well-managed growth is better for a healthy lifestyle and work-life balance.
Why should I read it?
If you are thinking about working for yourself as a soloist this is a good book to read. It has a motivational flavour that reinforces the idea that small is best. Company of One uses lots of case studies and examples centred on soloist operations. It touches on the importance of articulating values and goals. The reason I wanted to list this book is because Jarvis argues that growth isn’t the only metric of success in business. It’s refreshing to list a title that sees success from an alternate perspective.
Is it a challenging read?
It is not a difficult read but it does require your attention.
