What is it about?
This book is actually the prequel to Daring Greatly. It was written before the world-famous TED talk Brown delivered back in 2010. This is a book about understanding shame, and how carrying shame with us affects the way we live our lives.
Why should I read it?
The book has some great exercises you can choose to do to identify how shame manifests in your life and daily decisions. The book is split into three key areas. The first is the exploration of the meaning and understanding of shame, the second is a discussion on all the elements that allow us to build resilience and the third is strategies to overcome shame and develop strategies about building resilience.
Is it a challenging read?
This is an easy book to read because of the conversational tone. It’s also relatively short so not overly time consuming. Most importantly, it’s written in a style that builds connection and you’ll get the most out of it if you take the time to reflect on your own experiences throughout your reading of the book.
