What is it about?
Leading Change is widely cited and used in education as a reference to navigate organisational change processes. It remains a very popular business book about change and Kotter has an eight step approach to managing this with a team. The steps outlined are: create urgency; create a coalition; develop a vision; communicate the change; empower others; orchestrate short-term wins; consolidate gains and cement new approaches to culture. Kotter identifies the difference between leadership and management.
Why should I read it?
This is a great change reference book if you are leading a team in a new direction. It gives a framework to follow and addresses key actions needed to engage staff in the change process. I would recommend buying this book if you are a business owner or manager who needs to ensure all employees are engaged in the change process.
Is it a challenging read?
No, it is a surprisingly easy read and a book that is very easy to navigate.
