What is it about?
This is an older book now and needs to be read as a tale of caution rather than an absolute. The book examines production and manufacturing standards in China and argues the profit is king above all other quality metrics. Midler worked as an outsourcing consultant based in China around 2010, and represented the manufacturing needs of US businesses. In essence, the book is an expose about his experience dealing with the China manufacturing sector.
Why should I read it?
This is a cautionary tale about seeking off-shore manufacturing services. I would recommend it for someone about to embark on an international manufacturing agreement. I believe it's best to read the book as a generalised awareness and education book rather than an absolute position regarding manufacturing processes in China nowadays.
Is it a challenging read?
It’s not difficult read but does require your attention. The use of stories and examples makes the book easy to understand.
