It covers basic accounting principles very well and presents a business money management system similar to the Barefoot Investor book. There are lots of common sense ideas presented well throughout the book and each chapter has a handy three-point summary of the key concepts presented. This has been a very popular business finance book and has triggered a new category where these generalist concepts have been tailored to particular industries.
Why should I read it?
Profit First has some excellent ideas about how to fund sustainable business growth. It offers a simplified business accounting system although the method should be analysed to determine if it is a suitable system for your small business. I think the emphasis on cashflow and savings is excellent. Every business owner should know how to manage these key business metrics. It also has a number of actionable steps that are easy to adapt to any small business.
Is it a challenging read?
It’s an easy book to read but it deserves time to apply the principles outlined in the book to get real value from this money management system.
