What is it about?
This is a book that explains a way to explore the link between ideas that may, at first, seem like a random collection of thoughts. Some have said that Serious Creativity was the foundational approach to the more popular mind-mapping techniques so many are familiar with today. Yes, design thinking is a much more conventional approach to fostering creativity, however this book provides so much more with many different models to harness lateral thinking at work.
Why should I read it?
If you are looking for new ways to foster creative thinking this is a great book to purchase. If you need ideas about how to approach a problem from a new perspective this book has twelve different models to apply a lateral thinking approach. It’s a great resource if you simply feel uninspired about ways to think creatively.
Is it a challenging read?
I cannot sugar-coat it. This is a challenging read. I don’t think there’s an Edward de Bono book that doesn’t require focus and dedication to reading time. I find cherry-picking it the best way to maximise it’s value but you must be prepared to concentrate on the ideas presented even if you have skipped chapters. It is not an easy read.
