What is it about?
The Leadership Challenge is a book about effective leadership practices. There are five core practices presented in the book and each has its own dedicated chapters. These practices include ways to model appropriate behaviour, inspiring others to act and commit to building leadership competence. Across all of this is the argument that effective leaders are not afraid to be honest with their team and this promotes trust and respect amongst team members.
Why should I read it?
This is a good book for emerging leaders, or business owners who are growing their employee numbers and need to hone their leadership skills. There are a lot of anecdotes and ideas presented that can be easily applied in any workplace where people management skills are critical.
Is it a challenging read?
The separate practices makes the book easy to navigate but the concepts and presentation style can feel a bit complex at times. It’s a terrific reference book and well used in educational settings. Still worthy of a place on your business bookshelf if you are in a leadership position.
