What is it about?
The Leadership Compass by Michelle Redfern is about empowering women to embrace leadership roles. Redfern identifies the skills and behaviours women need to advance their career in the context of three different intelligences. The first is emotional, second is social and the third is business intelligence. The book outlines all the key areas Redfern believes (and she has had extensive senior management experience) women need to advance their careers to senior positions.
Why should I read it?
Michelle Redfern has embraced the term "ambitious" and has said this is a book written for unashamed ambitious women. If you are feeling stuck in your career, this is a terrific book to read. If you are starting your career and want to develop the skills necessary for advancement, Redfern has some excellent insights to share. If you have a female friend who you want to support in their career, this would make an excellent gift.
Is it a challenging read?
There is a lot of research cited in this book to highlight the gravitas of the current women in leadership situation. This book is written with a very direct tone and the use of metaphors, stories and real-world examples make this an engaging and thought-provoking read.
