What is it about?
This is a well-researched book about the importance of understanding and using personal power at work. Lipp does an excellent job positioning our understanding of power as a useful practice and not a manipulative one. Too many people associate power as a negative, controlling concept but this book demonstrates who we all need to tap into our personal power if we want to be considered equal (or a leader) amongst others. Lipp includes a range of strategies and researched behaviours that help the reader to harness their personal power.
Why should I read it?
If you've ever felt at the mercy of customer demands, this is the book for you. If you have felt that the team you lead at work doesn't respect your position, you need to read this book. If you don't feel acknowledged or recognised for your efforts and contributions, this book will provide insights in how to boost your profile and influence at work.
Is it a challenging read?
I understand the importance of power and mental health so I found it to be a fascinating and engaging read. Lipp does a great job keeping the writing tone engaging and easy to read whilst still bringing credibility of research to the topic. I must also flag that this book is an investment... I don't know why it is so expensive here in Australia but I can say, it is well worth the money.
